Our third theory to discuss is the "Co-Formation Theory" which alleges that the Moon and Earth were formed within the nebular disk around the Earth (similar to how our solar system formed around the Sun). This theory falls short when one revisits the composition of the Earth and Moon. If the Moon did indeed share some of the same building material as the Earth did and form in the same area, it should be very similar in composition to the Earth. We've seen, however, that the Moon doesn't share a significant iron core like our home planet does. There is one theory which remains to be discussed, and it is the one that is widely accepted today. The Giant Impactor Theory: The Giant Impactor Theory claims that the Moon was formed when an object the size of Mars slammed into the Earth shortly after the solar system's formation. After this object hit the Earth, tons of material from both the object and the Earth were sent into space and began to orbit around the Earth. This material slowly began to come together and collide until what we see as our Moon was created. This theory most easily explains the criteria we previously mentioned. The heat that would have been generated after the collision explains the evidence of "baking" on the Moon's surface. It also supports the fact that the Moon doesn't have a large iron core like the Earth. Finally, we have seen evidence of other such collisions in other parts of the solar system.

However, Neptune is wacky. This giant gaseous world has only a small number of moons when compared to the other three gaseous giant planets in our Sun's outer realm: Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus. Of the quartet of giant planets that inhabit our Sun's outer kingdom, Jupiter and Saturn are classified as gas-giants, while Uranus and Neptune are ice-giants. While all four planets are enormous in size, Jupiter and Saturn are much larger than Uranus and Neptune, and possess much more massive gaseous envelopes. The ice-giants, Uranus and Neptune, are smaller, contain larger solid cores, and sport less massive gaseous envelopes than their two gas-giant planet kin.

However, the truth is, during their entire voyage to the Moon and back to Earth, Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins only received amount of radiation equal to about 0.1% of the deadly dose. Their total exposure was approximately 11 milisieverts, and radiation dose lethal to an average human being is aroung 8,000 millisieverts.
Titan is the largest moon of the gas-giant planet Saturn, as well as the second-largest moon in our entire Solar System--after Jupiter's enormous Ganymede. Indeed, this smoggy orange moon is almost as big as the planet Mars! Because Titan is situated in the outer domain of our Solar System, circling Saturn--which is the sixth major planet from our Star, the Sun--it is extremely cold, and its chemical atmosphere is frozen. This very interesting atmosphere is composed of a mix of compounds that many astronomers think are comparable to those that existed in our own planet's primordial atmosphere. Titan's strange, dense, orange atmosphere contains large quantities of "smoggy" hydrocarbons. This very heavy shroud of obscuring smog is so extremely dense that it showers "gasoline-like" rain down on the tortured surface of this distant moon-world.
